1. Srirangam temple:

 

 Srirangam is the foremost of the eight self-manifested shrines (Swayam Vyakta Kshetras) of Lord Vishnu . It is also considered the first, foremost and the most important of the 108 main Vishnu temples (Divyadesams). This temple is also known as Thiruvaranga Tirupati, Periyakoil, Bhoologa Vaikundam, Bhogamandabam. In the Vaishnava parlance the term "KOIL" signifies this temple only. The temple is enormous in size. The temple complex is 156 acres in extent. It has seven prakaras or enclosures. These enclosures are formed by thick and huge rampart walls which run round the sanctum. There are 21 magnificent towers in all prakaras providing a unique sight to any visitor. this temple lies on an islet formed by the twin rivers Cauvery and Coleroon.

2. The grand anicut:

  

      The Grand Anicut also is known as the kallanai Dam is a simple check dam constructed across the direction of flow of the Kaveri river in order to divert water into the fertile delta of Tamil Nadu.

The Grand Anicut was originally built by King Karikalan of the Chola dynasty between the 100BC – 100AD in Thanjavur District, India. The purpose of the structure was to divert the flow from the Kaveri river across the fertile delta region in order to irrigate lands via canals In the northern delta branch.

3. Rockfort temple:

The most famous land mark of Tiruchirappalli is Rockfort Temple. It is also called as Ucchi Pillaiyar Kovil. It is in the heart of the city. This is a275 ft. tall rock structure. It is reached by a step flight of 437 steps cut into the rock. Halfway up is the Sri Thayumanaswamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It has a 100 pillared hall, and a Vimana. There are inscription in these temple that date back to 3rd century B.C. From its summit tourists can get a fantastic view of the town plus its other main landmark, Srirangam, Cauvery River, Coleroon River, Thiruvanaikal Kovil, etc. The temple is located 5 kms from Central Bus Stand and 1 km from Chathiram Bus Stand. Trichy. Government and private bus services are available to reach Rockfort.

4. Thiruvanaikovil:


 This temple is situated in Coromandel between two rivers, Cauvery in south, coleroon in North. It is one of the five element shrines or Pancha Bootha sthalams and is renowned for the worship of lord Siva as representing the element of water (appulinga).

As an Elephant was blessed here after worshipping here, this temple came to be known as ‘Thiruvanaikka’. As Lord Siva is seated below Jambu tree at this temple, it got its name Jambukeswaram. When Goddess Ahilandeswari penanced here, Lord Siva satisfied by her prayer blessed her. For this reason this temple is also known as Gnanashethram.

5. Samaiyapuram :


Samayapuram Mariyamman is a powerful deity. It is a popular and crowded temple. After Palani the most number of worshippers reach here. Nearest main city is Trichy and you can reach here in 20 to 30 minutes as it is roughly 16 km from Trichy to Samayapuram. Buses are available. But there is shortage of bus service after 8pm. So make sure you have vehicle facilities for the to and fro journey. Some people skip this trip while they visit Trichy. Don't do so. A visit to this temple is worth and make you happy. Don't expect much cleanliness in the surrounding. There is a long queue most of the time and hence opt the paid darshan for a speedy and pleasant darshan.

6. Mukkambu:


This is the place where the River cauvery is bifurcated in to 2 separate tributaries by the island town of Srirangam. The river flowing above is called as Kollidam while the one flowing below retains the name as cauvery.
This places has a small toy train, some fun rides for kids and a small island in the middle of the river. The place is maintained not so well but can be improved to attract more visitors.
It is best to visit immediately after the monsoon to see the river flowing in full and enjoy the absolutely fresh air.
The worst part is the annoying monkeys which literally snatch your food. Overall a nice place to spend the second half of your day.

7. Thirupattur:

At a distance of 35 km from Trichy, Sri Brahmapureeswar Temple is one of the rare temples dedicated to Lord Brahma situated at Thirupattur. While this is predominantly a Shiva temple, it is very closely associated with Lord Brahma. Devotees believed that a person can change his fate by seeking blessings at Brahmapureeswarar Temple.

The presiding deity of the temple is Sri Brahmapureeswarar in the form of a Swayambu Lingam. He is called Brahmapureeswarar since he changed the destiny of Brahma. There are seven enclosures leading to the sanctum. Every year in the Tamil month of Panguni (March-April) for three days, the sunlight falls directly on the presiding deity. It is a miracle that the sun rays cross the seven entrances and fall directly on the lingam.

8. Vayallur murugan kovil:

This temple is around 1200 years old and was built during the reign of cholas. The temple was built by the Cholas in the 9th century AD. The temple is surrounded by lush green fields. The gopuram of the temple was connected by the Hindu savant, Kirupanatha variyar The main deity in the temple is muruga, it is behind the Moolavar shivan Sannithy. The other Sannithys in this temple are Moolavar arulmigu Athi Nathar . Agni Theertham also known as Shakthi Theertham. According to a legend, Lord Muruga himself created this tank with his Velayudham. Sthala VrikshamVanni Maram is seen in the left side from the entrance of rajagopuram.
